Lighting Education
Common lighting applications to help with your lighting upgrade research.
High Bay & Low Bay Lighting
High bay and low bay lights are used to provide general indoor illumination, and are often hung just below the ceiling. They are generally arranged in a grid pattern and are often used in manufacturing and warehouse applications. It is common to use motion controls on these types of fixtures to conserve energy use.
LED Tube Lighting
LED tubes are used to replace fluorescent tubes in settings such as schools, offices, retail spaces, and even some industrial applications. LED tubes are an economical way to upgrade to LED.
Troffer Lighting
Troffer lighting is a type of recessed interior fixture that is mounted within a ceiling or a ceiling grid. The dimensions of these fixtures are generally 2×4, 2×2, or 1×4.
Parking & Area Lighting
Parking and area lighting are a type of exterior fixture that is mounted to poles. Up to four fixtures can be mounted to a pole depending on the amount of light needed. They are generally used in parking lots and along walkways to provide illumination for vehicles and pedestrians.
Post Top Lighting
Post top lighting is a term for a type of decorative exterior light fixture that is mounted on the top of poles and is commonly located along roadways and pathways.
Parking Garage
Parking garage light fixtures are robust fixtures designed to be on 24/7 and to withstand the cold of winter and the heat of summer. They often include special optics designed to evenly spread the light from low mounting heights to improve visibility and safety. Motion controls are often used on these fixtures to conserve energy use.
Flood Lighting
Flood lighting is a term used to describe a type of exterior fixture that provides directional illumination to a variety of space types. Their use is flexible, and you often see them mounted to buildings, poles, and as ground mounted up lighting. Lighting in sports stadiums is a type of flood lighting.
Wall Pack Lighting
Wall packs are a type of light fixture mounted to the exterior walls of a building. They provide general lighting for pedestrians and vehicles, and also for safety.
Pathway & Bollard Lighting
Bollard lights are outdoor, ground-mounted lighting fixtures mostly used to illuminate pathways and landscaping, and to improve safety.
Vapor Tight Lighting
Vapor tight light fixtures are used in environments where materials (such as water, dust, oils) could damage the fixture and shorten its lifespan. They are sealed and gasketed and can be used for indoor or outdoor illumination.
Task Lighting
Task lighting is light that is needed for intricate procedures that require optimal illumination for safety and completion of tasks. Task lighting is generally mounted directly over the workspace, so it provides focused light to that specific area.
Explosion Proof Lighting
Explosion proof light fixtures are designed for industrial applications, confined spaces and hazardous work areas where flammable or explosive gases, vapors, and combustible dusts may be present. These fixtures are engineered to provide continuous and consistent light levels in extreme environments and are also made to be corrosion resistant, shock proof and sealed against water, dust and other external contaminants.
